The Way of The Spirit
Ephesians 5:17-21 (Amplified Bible)
"Therefore, do not be foolish and thoughtless but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is. Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him. Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, [offering praise by] singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks to God the Father for all things, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ; being subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Thought to Ponder
The Christian life is not about trying harder. It is about living under the influence, guidance, and power of the Holy Spirit. Paul teaches believers to be continually filled with the Spirit, allowing Him to transform every aspect of life, from worship and gratitude to relationships and service. When we walk in The Way of The Spirit, God fills, guides, connects, and establishes us in His covenant purposes.
1. Drink - He Will Fill You
"Be filled with the Holy Spirit."
Just as a thirsty person drinks water for refreshment, believers are called to continually receive from the Holy Spirit. The more we draw near to God through prayer, worship, and His Word, the more He fills us with His presence, power, peace, and joy.
Life Application:
Take time daily to drink deeply from God's presence through prayer and worship.
2. Think - He Will Give You Wisdom
"Do not be foolish and thoughtless."
A Spirit-filled mind becomes a wisdom-filled mind. The Holy Spirit renews our thinking, helping us discern God's will and make godly decisions. He enables us to see life from Heaven's perspective rather than through the lens of this confused world.
Life Application:
Invite the Holy Spirit into every decision and trust Him to guide your thoughts.
3. Link - He Will Connect You to Himself and People
"Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs."
The Holy Spirit creates meaningful connections. First, He deepens our relationship with Christ. Then He links us with fellow believers for encouragement, growth, and ministry. Spiritual maturity grows in community with God and people.
Life Application:
Seek relationships that strengthen your walk with God and encourage others in faith.
4. Interlink - He Will Network You to Himself and People
"Being subject to one another out of reverence for Christ."
God never intended us to walk alone. The Holy Spirit weaves believers together into a divine network of purpose, accountability, support, and kingdom influence. Through Spirit-led relationships, God opens doors for ministry, service, and impact.
Life Application:
Be available for God-ordained connections and partnerships that advance His Kingdom.
5. Ink - He Will Keep His Covenant With You
"Always giving thanks to God, the Father for all things."
Throughout Scripture, God's covenant is His binding promise to His people. The Holy Spirit serves as God's seal upon believers, reminding us that the Lord is faithful to every promise He has made. What God has written, He will fulfill.
Life Application:
Live with confidence knowing that God's covenant promises are secure and unchanging.
Points to Ponder
-
Am I daily drinking from the presence of the Holy Spirit?
-
What area of my life needs God's wisdom today?
-
How is God connecting me to others for encouragement and growth?
-
Are there lifelong relationships God wants me to cultivate?
-
What covenant promise of God am I standing on right now?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Fill me afresh today. Give me wisdom for every decision, connect me to the right people, strengthen healthy relationships, and establish me in Your covenant promises. Help me to live under the influence of Your Spirit in worship, gratitude, and service. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
In Christ,
